Varicella Vaccine

Chickenpox, medically known as varicella, is a highly contagious viral infection characterized by an itchy rash and red spots or blisters (pox) all over the body. The varicella vaccine provides effective protection against this disease.

Overview

Chickenpox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It spreads easily from person to person through direct contact with the rash or through the air by respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. While often mild in children, chickenpox can be severe in adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically include an itchy rash that progresses to fluid-filled blisters, fever, tiredness, and loss of appetite. Most individuals recover within 1 to 2 weeks.
